Happy 186th Birthday, Toronto!

Toronto, we’ll be honest: You don’t look a day over 175.

Did you know that March 6 marks the day when the town of York was incorporated as the City of Toronto in 1834?

We, of course, Love TO, so it's time to celebrate the 186th birthday of our beloved city with beautiful, scenic photography, important history, and next-level cuisine.

A birthday photo album

In honour of the milestone, Instagrammers from across the city tagged their best snapshots with #TorontoDay.

Kudos go to Daily Hive, who collected some of the best shots of life in TO!

Our fave photo? Probably the one posted by the Broadview Hotel, a place with incredible views and unrivalled hospitality.

A History Lesson

With another trip around the sun comes the chance to reflect on how we got here. According to a new poll by Myseum of Toronto, a large majority of residents want to know more about the city’s Indigenous history.

Global News interviewed Indigenous elder Duke Redbird, who highlighted something very important: The place we call Toronto? The Haudenosaunee name is T’karonto — meaning “meeting place” — and it’s actually over 12,000 years old.

Birthday Feasts

Breakfast Television had a delicious idea: Highlight six restaurants to celebrate the Six’s 186th birthday.

“Ultimate foodie” Deepa Prashad visited the BT studio to dish about her favourite Toronto meals, like samosas from Samosa Sweet Factory or fesenjan with chicken (YUM!) from College Street’s Pomegranate Restaurant

From sweet to savoury to spicy, it’s a multicultural feast.
